COACH George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina says Zesco United are in South Sudan to finish off what they started in Ndola against Al Ghazala when the two sides clash in the CAF 2016 Champions League preliminary round return leg here.
Today’s match kicking off at 16:30 hours will also see Zesco try to make a statement in their historic first visit to Juba, being the first Zambian team to travel and play in Africa’s newest nation.
Despite arriving a day before the game, Lwandamina is confident his side, carrying a 2-0 lead from the first leg, will acclimatise well ahead of the match and that all teams will play under the same conditions.
“This is the only time we have and I am sure we are going to acclimatise before the game.
“We shall be playing under the same conditions and no team will have different conditions, so it’s one and the same. We have come to finish what we started back home,” Lwandamina said upon arrival here.
However, an ultra-defensive Al Ghazala frustrated Zesco from baptising them in a game that saw the latter score through an early Idriss Mbombo goal in the seventh minute and a late volley by Cletus Chama in second-half stoppage time to take a valuable lead.
Zesco need just a draw away but Lwandamina said he was still wary of the hosts despite them playing some negative football in the first leg.
“Definitely they will come and attack. It will be an open game and we won’t go there to defend because a 2-0 win is a narrow win but we will be cautious as much as we want to open up,” Lwandamina said.
The spotlight will again be on new boy Mbombo, who despite a goal-a-game from two competitive matches for Zesco, has yet to overturn his shots-on-target ration into a fistful of goals as the side seek a solid replacement for the prolific Winston Kalengo, who recently moved to AC Leopards in Congo-Brazzaville.
Goalkeeper Jacob Banda returns after missing the first leg due to suspension while striker Jackson Mwanza made the travelling party after missing the home win due to illness.
Meanwhile, Al Ghazala insist they will  give Zesco a tough game despite the away loss.
“We can beat them, anything can happen. We were not expecting to lose 1-0 but they beat us 2-0 at the last minute,” Al Ghazala captain George Francis Borodumoyo said.
The winner over both legs will host victor of Guinean side Horoya versus six-time Senegal champions AS Douanes in the first round during the weekend of March 12.
Horoya are 1978 winners of the defunct CAF Cup Winners Cup while Douanes have yet to advance to the continental group stage football.
The two West African clubs are scoreless from the first leg played in Dakar a fortnight ago and will meet in Conakry on Sunday in a 17:00 hours Zambian time kick-off.
