Construction of a 330 Kilovolt (KV) power station that will connect power to the Lusaka Multi-Facility Economic Zone (Mfez) is expected to start soon with an investment of K220 million.
Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata said it will cost the company K150 million to put up a substation that will break into the 330 KV line while K50 million will be spent on another facility to link Lusaka South and the rest of the province.
Mr Kapata said Zesco wishes to establish power in good time as the main objective of the project is to supply stable and reliable power supply that will promote growth in the Lusaka Mfez.
“Mfez will cost K150 million to put up a substation that will break into the 330 KV line, while another K50 million power line will link Lusaka South to the rest of the province,” he said.
The establishment of a new 330 KV substation in the area will entail diverting the existing 330 KV Kafue West Leopards hill line so that it terminates and takes off from the new substation.
The Lusaka Mfez is a $121 million project being developed through the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and will consist of self contained infrastructure among them housing and business enterprises.
The Mfez will be constructed in four phases and ZDA has attracted 39 firms for the expression of interests to be engaged in the construction works and 300 operators are currently working at the site.
