POLICE in Mkushi have arrested a 36-year-old man of Mainsa Village for murder after he allegedly killed a seven-year-old boy by hacking him with an axe on his neck.
Rodger Chabaila from Chief Chitina’s area is believed to have hacked Chalwe Chilyobwe, a Grade one pupil at Kalombe Primary School, as he was going to school.
Central Province police chief Lombe Kamukoshi, who confirmed the incident which happened on Monday around 07:00 hours, said police officers had not yet established the reasons for the killing.
She said Chabaila had been arrested but he had kept telling the police that he could not understand why he killed the boy.
The police officers retrieved the axe that was used after arresting the culprit, while the accused is in police custody.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old girl in Ndola who was killed by Boerboel dogs at her parent’s residence was put to rest amid a sombre mood among family members and other mourners yesterday.
Twiggy Buchisa, who on Sunday morning was attacked and killed by the dogs in Pamodzi Overspill, was buried at Kawama Cemetery.
A family representative, Royd Mwaba said during burial that a post-mortem had indicated that the victim died due to excessive bleeding after being attacked by the dogs.
Mr Mwaba encouraged the family members and mourners to remain focused and depend on God as He was the giver of life.
“Our daughter was on Sunday attacked by dogs, and she sustained deep cuts on the neck. The cause of death is excessive bleeding,” he said.
The parents of the girl refused to lay wreaths on their daughter’s grave, but instead walked to their car when they were called to lead other mourners.
The family has indicated that the dogs would be killed after the period of mourning.
And two 12-year-old boys of Luanshya and Chililabombwe have drowned in dams where they went swimming with their friends.
In Luanshya, Sekelani Ng’ambi, a Grade seven pupil at Nkambo Primary School in Mpatamato Township, drowned in a disused pit at Muliashi South Open Pit Mine.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Charity Katanga confirmed in an interview that the deceased went to swim with his friends when he got stuck and drowned in a disused open pit on Sunday around 14:30 hours.
Ms Katanga said operations at Muliashi South Open Pit Mine were discontinued during the rainy season as the place got flooded and slippery.
In the Chililabombwe case, Daniel Mukanza drowned in a slim dam when he went to swim with six friends.
Ms Katanga said fire brigade officers and members of the community retrieved the body and took it to Kakoso General Hospital mortuary.
