CHAINAMA Hills Golf club at the weekend won the Lusaka Triangular Golf Championship to earn the right to represent the region at the National Quadrangular tournament.
The club will battle it out against defending champions Choma, Nkana, Nchanga Golf Clubs who were respective winners in their regions for the finals scheduled for March 6 at Chainama Golf Club in Lusaka.
After the weekend’s third round of the triangular, Chainama finished with 135 points, supplanting Chilanga who won last year’s tussle and represented the region.
Chainama carded 58 points in the final leg to finish in distant first place with Chilanga finishing second on 26 points, two better than bottom side Lusaka.
On the overall, Chainama had 135 points while last year’s champions Chilanga finished second with 102 points with Lusaka anchoring the table with just 87 points.
In the Southern Province zone, Choma finished with 142 points leaving Mazabuka in second place with 132 points while Mamba had a paltry 50 points.
Nkana also emerged victorious in the contest to qualify to the national tournament with 108 points, while Ndola was close-by with 101 points and Mufulira with 97 points in what had turned out to be the tightest qualifying tournament.
Nchanga finished with 146 points leaving Konkola in second position with 90 points with Roan lying last with 86 points.
Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) tournament secretary Nels Malaya confirmed the qualified teams to the national quadrangular championships.
