By HOPE BWALYA –
THE Patriotic Front (PF) has warned members against engaging in any acts of corruption ahead of the 2016 elections.
PF elections committee vice-chairperson Kelvin Bwalya warned party officials and aspiring candidates against any form of electoral malpractice.
Mr Bwalya was speaking during a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
“I want to give a warning, we have intelligence reports that some of our officials now that they have been given power, they want to start selling their positions because they are the ones to choose the candidates,” he said.
Mr Bwalya said any aspiring candidate found wanting would have their adoption canceled.
He said the party wanted clean, disciplined candidates, who could stand the test of time.
Mr Bwalya said the party intended to embark on a countrywide sensitisation campaign that aims at empowering women politically.
He said the campaign was aimed at equipping women with the necessary information in view of the upcoming tripartite elections.
“We have decided to go on a country wide campaign to educate, empower and encourage our women so that they can stand up and be counted in the next upcoming elections,” he said.
The campaign was in response to the announcement made by President Edgar Lungu on the decision by the party to give 40 per cent of all contesting candidates on the PF ticket to women.
He said the PF wanted to lead by example in supporting women to stand in political positions.
