INDENI Petroleum Refinery in Ndola has suspended operations, awaiting the arrival of new feed stock.
However, Government has assured members of the public not to panic as there is adequate fuel in the reserves to cater for the local demand.
Energy Permanent Secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola said the closure was not indefinite and that the new consignment would be in the country soon.
Gen Chola said in an interview that Indeni had run out of stock and waiting for the new consignment which would be brought in soon.
“I can confirm that Indeni has been closed, but it is not indefinite, we are just waiting for the new consignment. People should not panic, because there is enough in the reserves and on the local market,” she said.
She said Government had put in place measures to ensure that the country did not run out of fuel supplies, as the new stock was being awaited.
Gen Chola however, said she would issue a comprehensive statement on the matter, today.
