AN EIGHTY-YEAR-OLD woman of Senanga, Western Province has been raped in a graveyard by a 22-year old man.
Provincial Police chief Charles Lungu said the 80-year-old woman was raped at the grave site as she was coming back from fetching firewood on Sunday around 17:00 hours.
Mr Lungu said the man had since been arrested.
He was apprehended by members of the public who identified the trousers he left behind when he fled the scene after he heard passersby close in.
The public identified the clothes as his, and that was how he was apprehended.
Mr Lungu named the suspect as Chiwisa Chiyuka of Mandenga area in Chief Nalongwe’s chiefdom in Senanga.
The victim also identified him as the culprit.
“Passersby heard the woman crying but when they got to the scene, Chiyuka ran away, leaving his trousers and pants that were later identified by the public as belonging to him and he was apprehended,” Mr Lungu.
Chiyuka would appear in court today.
Meanwhile, the 75- year- old man of the same district who was believed to be behind the mysterious disappearance of his son, who died and was buried three months ago but resurfaced alive has been rejected by his wife and children.
Kabalule Mufalali, father of Mufalali Mufalali who died in November last year, has been abandoned by his family following allegations that he was behind his son’s bizarre death.
Mr Lungu said Police arrangements were being made, for him to be taken-in by the department of social welfare under the Ministry of Community Development at one of the centres in Livingstone as the old man had now been rendered vulnerable and homeless.
Mr Lungu said Mr Mufalali senior was still in police custody after his wife and children refused to take care of him.
“We are still keeping Mufalali senior in our custody after we rescued him from an angry mob that wanted to kill him following accusations that he was a witch, his family has refused to take him in,” Mr Lungu said.
He said investigations into Mufalali’s case were on hold as Police were waiting for Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results that were taken from the exhumed body last Friday.
Mufalali Mufalali who is in his early 40’s is believed to have died at Senanga Hospital in November last year following an illness and was buried by the family only to be spotted three months later by his daughter.
