GOVERNMENT has said that it will accelerate the procurement of solar and inland electricity generation equipment in an effort to minimise power outages as soon as possible.
Minister of Energy Dora Siliya admitted that there was massive load shedding which needed to be reduced as soon as possible.
She said that she had engaged Zesco on improving the schedule as well as reducing load shedding.
“We are committed to do everything possible to attract all forms of energy investment into our country to make Zambia self sufficient in energy and export power once again.
As a ministry, we will accelerate procurement of solar and inland generation so that load shedding is minimised as soon as possible,” Ms Siliya said.
She said this in her latest posting on her Facebook page.
Ms Siliya said it had also been observed that not many power vendors were selling units after 19:00 hours and that Zesco was hoping to improve the vendor access as soon as possible.
“I have asked Zesco to address the challenge of vendor access and also improve on the schedule. We also seem not to have many power vendors selling power after 19:00 hours and the systems fail often. Zesco is hoping to improve the vendor access soon,” she said
