THE Zambia Information and Telecommunication Authority (ZICTA) has identified and approved five sites where mobile communication towers will be erected in Kalomo District, Southern Province.
This will ease the challenge of poor mobile communication businesses and individuals have been experiencing in the area.
Kalomo District Commissioner Cosmas Chiba informed Energy and Water Development Permanent secretary Eddie Chomba who paid a courtesy call on him, that five sites for mobile towers had been identified.
“We have been experiencing poor mobile communication challenges in the area which has been making business difficult, but recently ZICTA working with Zamtel will by April this year start constructing towers in five locations,” Mr Chiba said.
He said that most business transactions were done using mobile phones and that it was imperative that network was available to reduce the cost of doing business.
Mr Chiba said with the coming of e-voucher system, mobile communication was more than needed in the area.
He also said most feeder roads were in a deplorable state, making movement of inputs and products challenging.
“The other challenge people were facing especially farmers is the deplorable nature of the feeder roads in the district which need urgent attention,” Mr Chiba said.
Mr Chiba further said Zambia National Service would soon tar most of the roads in the area.
