ZESCO United’s CAF Champions’ League opponents Al Ghazal has kept the Zambian champions guessing on their arrival for this Saturday’s preliminary round first leg encounter at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Zesco communications manager Katebe Chengo confirmed that the South Sudanese side promised to give full travel details yesterday but by Press time, nothing had come forth.
Chengo said at the time she contacted Al Ghazal on Tuesday afternoon, the team was still finalising their arrangements.
“They will give us details tomorrow (Wednesday) because they are finalising their arrangements today,” Katebe said.
Then when contacted yesterday, Katebe said “Nothing as yet, maybe later in the day.”
Al Ghazal, who finished second in the league, were a last minute replacement of Atlabar after the South Sudan champions opted to play in the Confederation Cup.
The return leg will be played on February 23 in South Sudan.
Al Ghazal will have a huge task to go passed Zesco as they will be playing in continental championships just for the second time having represented South Sudan in the Confederations Cup last year where they were eliminated 7-1 on aggregate by Petrojet of Egypt.
On the other hand Zesco have continued to train behind closed doors as coach George Lwandamina works on catching up with the team after being away with the national team at the CHAN tournament.
Lwandamina was not with the team during the pre-season tournament where Zesco finished third behind Tanzania’s Azam and local rivals Zanaco.
Zesco also welcomed back goalkeeper Jacob Banda, midfielders Cletus Chama and Mwape Mwelwa as well as Daudi Musekwa who were with Lwandamina at the CHAN.
