GREEN Eagles women handball team has scooped the Super-Eight league title with three games to spare in the competition.
Eagles won the title after beating Kasisi Dynamites 29-24 in an exciting game played in Chamba Valley over the weekend.
Dynamites actually dominated the first half proceedings and went to break leading by 15-13 over the champions-in-waiting who looked a shadow of themselves.
Charity Phiri starred for Kasisi in the first half as she contributed 10 goals of the 15 goals they scored in the in the first-half but the game was turned on its head in the second half.
Eagles came back in the game after Elizabeth Daka also netted 10 goals in the second half to obliterate the Dynamites first half lead and put the Eagles ahead.
Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) President Victor Banda said it was the clash of giants because the two teams were the leaders in the women game in the country.
“It was a nice game that was watched by a huge crowd at the Chamba Valley grounds over the weekend. These are the country’s two best sides and the quality in the game did not disappoint,” he said.
Meanwhile in the men’s category, four teams are in contention for the title with three games remaining.
Green Eagles, Kasisi Dynamites, Kamwala Stars and Lusaka Tigers are the teams in contention for the Super-Eight men’s league title.
