TWO Moomba Secondary School pupils and a conductor died yesterday at 10 Miles on the Great North Road after the driver of the Toyota Hiace minibus lost control and over turned.
The driver of the minibus is in a critical condition while seven other girls and three boys from the same school sustained serious injuries and were currently receiving treatment at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed the development in an interview yesterday and said the two deceased pupils were both girls but their identity and that of the conductor had been withheld.
Ms Chanda said the driver of the minibus registration number BAC 314 was driving from Lusaka to Moomba when he tried to overtake a truck but in the process lost control and the bus overturned due to excessive speeding.
“The accident occurred around 07:10 hours on Monday, two school girls and a conductor were pronounced dead upon arrival at UTH, seven girls and three boys are currently receiving treatment at UTH,” she said.
