CHILANGA golfer Beauty Cornhill Mukanda is new Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) president.
Mukanda, who takes over from Moono Mwila took up the presidency after winning elections at the weekend where she defeated Julie Sakala of Ndola Golf Club.
In the elections held at Kabwe Golf Club on Sunday, Mukanda polled 14 votes against Sakala’s seven votes.
Soon after being elected Mukanda said her main aim is to promote the sport by tapping talent in the rural areas especially among the juniors.
Mukanda said she would break down the barriers and bring members together besides restoring the cherished traditions and rules of the game.
Meanwhile Mufulira golf club member Maliase Siame took the vice-presidency seat after her only opponent Lorna Mweenda failed to meet the nomination standards of being nominated by one’s club and two other clubs, with Siame ending up standing unopposed.
Christen Nkweto went through unopposed to become vice-president south, when her opponent Carol Masisani did not also meet the required nominations from her club.
The same story happened on the vice president north position which was won by Godfridah Chulu of Nkana golf club after her opponent could not meet the nomination qualification.
Beatrice Zulu scooped the General Secretary seat unopposed as Mweenda, who also eyed the seat got disqualified with Franca Roccia elected as Treasurer after her opponent Ruch Ndani got disqualified under the same circumstances.
Olivia Phiri, Mable Nindi and Agnes Mwamba were voted in as Executive members.
