THIRTEEN of the 27 suspects who escaped from Chelstone Police station in Lusaka last week have been re-apprehended.
Lusaka Province Commissioner of police, Nelson Phiri said that 14 other suspects were still on the loose, but police would do everything possible to ensure they are re-arrested.
Mr Phiri said in an interview yesterday that the 13 were re-arrested the same day of the incident and would be charged with escaping from lawful custody.
The 27 escaped from custody on Friday after over-powering an officer who was left to man the station while other officers were tasked to University of Zambia students’ riots.
“We managed to re-arrest 13 of the suspects the same day during a man-hunt which was supplemented by efforts of members of the public.
“The 13 will now bear two charges, including that of escaping from lawful custody while the search for others has intensified,” Mr Phiri said.
