MMD president Nevers Mumba has urged Wusakile residents in Kitwe to vote for his party’s candidate in the forthcoming ward by-elections so as to enhance development in the area.

Dr Mumba said the Patriotic Front (PF) had failed to honour its election campaign promises therefore, it was time the party was voted out of Government.

He said the electorate should correct their mistake of voting for the PF in the 2011 polls by voting for a new leader.

Dr Mumba alledged that the PF won the elections on false campaign promises and that it was time the residents corrected that mistake.

“If you make a mistake you have to correct it, so vote for the MMD councillor because the PF has failed,” he said.

On January 28, 10 political party candidates successfully filed in their nomination papers for the Wusakile by-elections making it one of the highly competitive local government polls.

Those contesting include Charles Silomba of the National Restoration Party (NAREP), Davie Simunyola of PF, Green Party’s Elijah Chitibwi, United Party for National Development (UPND)’s Dorothy Mulenga and Ian Mulaku of MMD.

Others include Hopson Nyondo of the United National Independence Party (UNIP), Martin Mulonda of the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) and Joyce Chanda who is contesting as an independent candidate.

The rest are John Sapula and Billy Simuyemba, both independent candidates

The Wusakile ward fell vacant following the death of PF councillor Francis Miti who was also Kitwe deputy mayor.
