THE Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWASCO) is capturing data from Choma’s Chandamali residents in readiness for the installation of water metres in the area.
SWASCO has embarked on a water development project funded by the Devolution Trust Fund (DFT) to install water distribution lines to Chandamali residents.
SWASCO acting corporate affairs manager Lungowe Mutumwenu said the project was nearing completion and the water utility company was currently updating its database.
Government in 2014 released K2.7 million to SWASCO from the DFT for the water reticulation project in the township.
More than 12,000 people of Chandamali Township are expected to benefit from the project that will enable them have access to clean and safe water.
The actual works of the project involve the putting up of about 25 kilometres of a water supply network in the area which would connect to about 2,000 households and another 1,900 metres will be installed in line with the company’s policy of ensuring that all connections were metered as a way of reducing non-revenue water.
Other townships that have benefited from the DTF are Dambwa and Libuyu in Livingstone.
