A RETIRED Catholic priest in Mbala has praised President Edgar Lungu for showing good leadership during the one year the Head of State has been in office.
Father Ives Bantungwa of Saint Francis Parish said Mr Lungu has managed to fulfill the wishes of many Zambians in the short time he has served as President.
Fr Bantungwa said President Lungu had shown good leadership and had a heart for the country, this was evidenced by the decision to assent to amendments to the Constitution among the many good things he had done for the country.
He said Zambians should appreciate the President for his style of leadership which had shown that he had a heart for the people.
“I must congratulate President Lungu for the good leadership he has shown in the one year he has been in office. I am proud to have a President who fulfils the wishes of the people,” he said.
Fr Bantungwa said the amendments to the Constitution had addressed various concerns that were raised by the people.
He said he was one of the people who participated in the process of amending the Constitution and that it was not easy to fulfil everyone’s desires.
He said clauses such as the 50-plus-one, dual citizenship, running mate, had been consistent in the formulation of the Constitution and it was good that Mr Lungu had shown good leadership by assenting to the amended clauses.
“We have issues like the 50-plus one clause, as we were going round to get the views of people on what should be included in the Constitution, many wanted the 50-plus-one and today their wishes have been fulfilled,” he said.
He said President Lungu had managed to deliver a people-driven Constitution.
