It is really heartening to see that the opposition political parties are pledging to conduct their business in a peaceful manner.
This is what the people of Zambia have always wanted for a very long time.
Our country has always been admired as a haven of peace and an example of a growing African democratic society, based on her long history of peace and the lead that the country took in embracing democratic political change. However, down the lane, the country has found herself degenerating into a nest of chaotic political scenes because of some selfish politicians who want to ascend to power at all cost.
We are encouraged by the opposition parties’ resolve yesterday at their gathering to carry out their business peacefully as we glide towards this year’s tripartite elections in August.
This is the way to go, especially that the commitment is coming shortly after unruly United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres ran amok in Choma and misconducted themselves in a manner grossly inimical to the tenets of a Christian and democratic nation.
Nevertheless, the mere verbal commitment to peace is not enough. The nation now waits to see the opposition walk the talk, which will significantly reflect their true character and leadership qualities.
But if it is mere lip service, the relevant wings should  rigidly applying the Public Order Act to regulate the political field and shield the innocent Zambian from the harm perpetrated by political greed.
The way they adhere to their pledge will greatly portray their worth to rule this country because it borders on integrity. We wish all the parties all the best as we look forward to peaceful political co-existence.
