A MAN of Lusaka’s Garden Township has sued his wife for divorce claiming that she had turned him into a source of money and a slave in his own house.
Sisala Munthali, 44, told the court that his wife Mpundu Mwape had also been refusing to have sex with him, hence his decision to seek divorce.
This is a case in which Munthali sued Mwape for divorce after the two failed to resolve their marital disputes.
Facts in court were that Munthali was the second husband married to Mwape.
Earlier, Mwape was married to another man but the two divorced and that is when she got married to Munthali and the couple had two children in a period of five years.
Munthali said that his wife got money from his account and plundered it with her former husband for that reason he did not want her in his life.
“She got my money in the name of buying foodstuffs yet my sister told me that she saw her with her former husband at a restaurant ordering snacks,” he said.
He said his wife had sold most of the things in the house and that he did not know where she took the money.
“My wife sold our old fridge, radio and some old carpets up to now she has not told me where she took the money as I buy everything in our house,” he said.
Munthali said his wife would send him to cook and bath their children, while she would be lazing around and never allowed him to have sex with her after giving birth to their second child who was currently two years old.
However, Mwape said she was not willing to divorce the husband because of the children and that she was avoiding having sex with him because he did not give her money for food and upkeep.
“He wants to sleep with me but he does not give me money for food as well as money for maintaining the house,” she said.
She said that his friends and family did not like her therefore creating stories of seeing her with her former husband.
“I have never seen my former husband from the time we got married more-over, I do not know his account how could I have taken his money,” she said.
Magistrate Pauline Newa siting with Lewis Mumba dissolved the marriage and ordered Munthali to compensate Mwape with K7, 000 as well as K250 per month for child maintenance.
