CHIEF Mukuwe of the Lenje-speaking people in Ngabwe District in Central Province says the area won’t get a good yield this year due to erratic rainfall.
The traditional leader said most of his subjects involved in small and medium-scale farming, were badly affected by the poor rainfall such that the first seed went to waste and they had to replant.
He was, however, grateful to the Government for thinking ahead of the impending food shortage and thanked President Edgar Lungu for suggesting measures that would help cushion the situation.
Chief Mukuwe said this when Deputy Minister of Works and Supply Mutaba Mwali paid a courtesy call on him after inspecting Government developmental projects in the newly established Ngabwe District.
And Chief Mukuwe said his chiefdom was thankful to the Government for the new infrastructure that is taking shape in his chiefdom though he bemoaned the slow pace at which two contractors were doing their work.
“We are very grateful to Government for remembering this region and bringing meaningful development in this area. With this development, most people who had not yet obtained national registration cards(NRCs) because of the long distance to Kabwe will now find it easy, please convey our gratitude to the President,” he said.
Meanwhile Dr Mwali said Government would not condone contractors who did shoddy work and promised the traditional leader that the ministry would soon find capable contractors to quickly finish the projects.
The nearest civic centre where the people of Ngabwe District obtain NRCs was Kabwe which was more than 150 kilometres away.
