A ZAMBIAN held in Duban, South Africa, on allegation of causing alarm at an airport by saying that he had a bomb, has appeared in a magistrates’ court there.
Paul Sikazwe is being held in police custody in South Africa for causing alarm and panic as well as contravening the Terror Act.
According to Zambian High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba’s latest Facebook posting, Sikazwe appeared in a Durban magistrates’ court on Monday at 09:00 hours and at 14:00 hours.
Sikazwe is expected to appear in court again today.
“The prosecution was not ready and have not yet given the suspect any charge,” Mr Mwamba said.
Sikazwe is alleged to have on Friday told an officer at King Shaka International Airport in Durban at a checkpoint that he had a bomb.
Sikazwe and his friends travelled to South Africa last week to buy motor vehicles and on Friday, they went to King Shaka International Airport on their way back home.
Sikazwe and his friends were in a jovial mood and when he reached one of the checkpoints, the lady manning the station asked him what was in his bag.
Sikazwe then responded by saying that it was a bomb and even when he apologised afterwards, South African police had been alerted.
His bag was not found with any weapon but he was arrested for causing panic and alarm.
