THE Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in Eastern Province is empowering 97 farmer groups and associations with matching grants valued at K16 million.
Provincial veterinary officer Arthur Mumbolomena said yesterday that the farmer groups and associations were receiving matching grants through funding from the World Bank.
“Ninety-seven farmer groups and associations are receiving matching grants. The amount is about K16 million,” he said.
Dr Mumbolomena said the project of empowering the farmer groups and associations was aimed at increasing the production of village chickens, broilers and layers in the province.
He further said that four out of five dip tanks in Mambwe District had been completed.
