PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has warned council workers and civil servants across the country not to undermine his Government because they will be relieved of their duties.
President Lungu said he was disturbed with reports that Chipata Municipal Council officials were treating street vendors like criminals in the border town.
The President said this when he addressed PF members at Luangwa Lodge in Chipata yesterday.
Mr Lungu said street vendors were not criminals and local authorities should not be treating them as such to an extent of even burning their trading places.
He warned that whoever undermined his Government would be flushed out from the office without any restraint.
“I am aware that Chipata Municipal Council are treating street vendors like criminals. As far as I am concerned, I will not tolerate such kind of behaviour and I keep on restraining myself from firing people, but whoever is going to undermine my Government from the council or civil service, I will flush them out from office,” he said.
President Lungu has since ordered Local Government Minister Stephen Kampyongo to check on what has been happening at Chipata Municipal Council.
He said he was sure that the minister would sort out the mess taking place at the local authority.
