THE Registrar of Societies is investigating the Democratic Front (DF) leadership wrangle involving Matero Member of Parliament (MP) Miles Sampa and lawyer David Chanda who are both claiming to be leaders of the party.
Mr Sampa launched the DF last weekend but on Monday, Mr Chanda produced documents claiming he was the interim president of the party that he registered in 2014.
Mr Chanda said the original name of the party was Genuine People’s Platform before the name was changed to DF.
Mr Sampa, however, on Saturday night also launched the DF in Kitwe.
Home Affairs spokesperson Moses Suwali said the Registrar of Societies was investigating the matter.
“The matter is still under investigation. I can’t say exactly how long it will take,” Mr Suwali said.
He said once the Registrar of Societies was done with the investigation, the Ministry of Home Affairs would issue a Press statement to reveal the results of the investigation.
On Monday, Mr Chanda accused Mr Sampa of impersonation, saying he would report him to authorities for using the name DF.
Mr Chanda said Mr Sampa was not a member of the DF and he was not the leader of the party.
He said Mr Sampa should have done his investigations on the name before he named his party as such.
Mr Sampa could not be reached for a comment.
