PEOPLE’S Democratic Party president George Mpombo yesterday appeared before a Ndola magistrates’ court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of failing to secure a firearm.
Mpombo, 61, a farmer of Plot Number 10, Maranatha Farm in Chiwala area of Masaiti district, appeared before principal resident magistrate Obbister Musukwa where facts for his case were read.
Mpombo, who was in the company of his daughter, told the court that he understood the charge, but denied committing the offence.
Particulars of the offence are that between December 1, 2015 and January 19, 2016, Mpombo, being a person in lawful possession of a firearm, namely, Norinco 9.9 millimeters, serial number 202329, failed to secure the firearm to avoid it being in possession of a person not lawfully entitled to it.
Magistrate Musukwa recorded a plea of not guilty and the matter was adjourned to February 25 for commencement of trial.
Mpombo, who is currently on bond, is being represented by Chimuka Magubwi of Magubwi and Associates of Ndola.
