THE Government has mobilised resources to construct and upgrade hydro power stations in an effort to add another 4,521 mega watts by 2025.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chishimba Kambwili said 13 sites had already been identified and the move would help cushion the power crisis that the country is currently facing.
He said the long-term projects would also help the country export power to earn foreign exchange.
Mr Kambwili said the projects were being undertaken by Zesco and other partners such as the Copperbelt Energy Company a Zimbabwean company.
The minister said this yesterday when he addressed Kasama residents at the provincial planning offices.
“You are aware that the country is currently facing the power crisis and, to mitigate the situation, Government has mobilised funds to embark on projects that will help address the challenges. The
projects once completed, by 2025, will help generate more than 4,000 mega watts of power,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said the sites where the projects would take place included Batoka, Itezhi-Tezhi, Kafue Gorge, Musonda Falls, Luswishi and Chavuma.
Others are Chishimba Falls, Luapula, Kalungwishi, Lunzua, Kabompo and Ndola.
Mr Kambwili later featured on Radio Mano where he encouraged farmers to take advantage of the rainfall by engaging in various farming activities.
He said the Government was diversifying the economy by engaging and supporting farmers country-wide.
