$7bn spent on rural infrastructure

THE Government has spent more than US$7 billion in infrastracture development to attract investors acroos the country.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chishimba Kambwili said the Government had prioritised infrastructure development to create an enabling environment for investors.
Mr Kambwili said the Patriotic Front (PF) Government had invested in infrastructure development in the last four years it had been in power and that so far more than $7 billion had been spent.
He was speaking when he addressed Government departmental heads and Kasama residents at the provincial planning unit conference hall yesterday.
The minister said that construction of roads, education and health facilities across the country would attract more investors.
“Government has done a lot in terms of infrastructure development to attract investors. We have embarked on a project to construct roads, health and education facilities and all these will attract investors,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said the Link Zambia 8000 project was aimed at linking provinces and districts to ease movement and transportation of goods.
He said that Link Zambia 8000 was a long-term project and that all provinces had recorded infrastracture development.
