PEOPLE’S Democratic Party president George Mpombo was on Friday afternoon arrested and charged with failing to secure a firearm.
This follows the arrest of his son who is alleged to have gruesomely murdered his girlfriend and was also facing charges of attempted aggravated robbery.
Mr Mpombo, who appeared before the Police on Friday morning, was warned and cautioned but later released.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said in an interview that Mr Mpombo had been released on Police bond and would appear in court soon.
“Honourable Mpombo was arrested yesterday afternoon on charges of failing to secure a firearm. Police arrested him after conducting investigations at his home in Masaiti District. He has, however, been released on Police bond after complaining of high blood pressure and failing to breath,” she said.
Ms Katanga said Mr Mpombo was issued with a medical report looking at his condition after two working sureties signed his Police bond.
She said his son would soon appear in court after being officially arrested and charged on Monday following conclusion of investigations into other charges.
