THE African Union Sports Council (AUSC) has honoured former general secretary Sonstone Kashiba for his contribution to the development of sport in the region.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale conferred Kashiba with an AUSC jacket on behalf of the union, as a symbol of appreciation for his 10 years of service.
Mwale said the country was proud of Kashiba for having flown the Zambian flag high and demonstrated good leadership on the African continent.
He said it was because of Kashiba’s positive contribution that the country supported his nomination to be awarded.
“I, as minister in charge of sport in the country, I am proud of you as a son of the land for having flown our flag high and imprinted Zambia’s good nature in leadership on the African map. I confer you with this jacket as a symbol of appreciation of your service,” Mwale said.
Mwale expressed hope that Kashiba would continue imparting knowledge into the sports fraternity through various means.
Kashiba thanked the minister for the unique honour given to him because it was not his achievement alone but for the country.
He would not have succeeded in his work without support from the people of Zambia.
“This honour belongs to Zambia for having supported me on this amazing journey. It was not easy, sometimes it was rough and I made some enemies on the way. I did everything for the benefit of the region,” Kashiba said.
