JOSEPH Kapupe’s Music for Change project recently held a concert dubbed ‘Promote the fight against early marriages and inequality among women and girls’.
The concert was held at Arcade’s Shopping Mall in Lusaka and was the band’s first live awareness musical show of 2016.
Pupe said music was very powerful. He said citizens should utilise music more often to make the world better.
He said the awareness and sensitisation campaign shows went back to April 2015 when his group committed itself to gender and climate change.
“Our awareness programmes and shows started last year from April. We went on with it up to October 2015, then went on for a festive break and this time we want to do more from where we left off.
“We also hope to continue engaging more men and boys in exploring their understanding of gender, cultural expectations and promoting gender equity,” he said.
The singer also said young girls and women should be given a chance to get educated so that society could reduce child marriages.
“We need to make sure that our women and girls are given a chance to fulfil their full potential because we believe no one should be limited in anything they want to do. Reducing child marriages and getting more girls to stay in school will save many lives and bring positive change to their families, communities, economies and society at large,” he said.
