FIRST Lady Esther Lungu has pledged to lobby for more support to help improve the living standards of the underprivileged people in the country.
Ms Lungu expressed her passion to help reduce poverty and other challenges among the vulnerable people and that she would endeavour to support them.
The First Lady was speaking in Choma yesterday when she visited Tuyandane Village for the Blind.
She assured that President Edgar Lungu would ensure the welfare of vulnerable people were improved.
“This is a non-segregative Government which is pro-poor because our President (Mr Lungu) is for all Zambians regardless of political affiliations, and is committed to improving the livelihood of underprivileged people in society,” Ms Lungu said.
Ms Lungu’s desire was to see that Zambians, particularly children, had access to school to acquire quality education.
She challenged women in the country to continue forming empowerment clubs to access funds from relevant Government institutions.
Ms Lungu pledged to visit the women’s clubs often to check on progress made and have them funded.
“I have taken note of the challenges the people of Tuyandane Village are going through and I am saddened that children don’t even go to school due to lack of funds,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Chrispin Kapunda was happy that Ms Lungu visited the area to see the many challenges that villagers were going through.
Mr Kapunda appealed to the Government to rehabilitate a dam in Mochipapa area which provides water to the community and their livestock.
