By JAMES KUNDA in Choma –
THE Government has released K1 million for the initial construction phase of an ultra-modern airport in Choma, Southern Province.
Provincial Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu, who disclosed this in an interview, said the funds had been availed by the Treasury to facilitate the project which is expected to commence this year.
“A total of K1 million has been released by the Treasury for the construction of an airport in Choma which will commence as soon as we finalise the issue of its location.
“Yet again, this is a landmark development being undertaken by the Patriotic Front Government to ease the movement of goods and people,” Mr Mubukwanu said.
He said the province had continued to witness an unprecedented development under the tenure of President Edgar Lungu as per policies enshrined in the PF manifesto of 2011.
Mr Mubukwanu, who is Mongu Central PF member of Parliament (MP), said his constituency had not been excluded from the Government’s development agenda.
“Mongu Central has seen unprecedented development since 2011 when there was literally nothing to show for its existence.
“New health posts have been constructed, roads done, three primary schools upgraded to secondary status and very soon, Shoprite will be constructing a new shopping mall which will create more jobs for the youth,” he said.
Mr Mubukwanu pledged to lobby President Lungu to consider elevating Mongu to a city status.
