By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA –

VETERAN midfielder Isaac Chansa is confident Zambia can go all the way and win the 2016 African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament in Rwanda going by the experience, zeal and spirit in camp.
Chansa believes history might also repeat itself as the spirit in the Chipolopolo camp is the same as that exhibited by the 2012 squad that won the coveted Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Gabon.
The Africa Cup winning luminary was the star man in midfield and also scored the lone goal that helped Zambia secure a vital 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in the Group D opening game at Umuganda Stadium.
“The team spirit is great. The balance in the team between the young and extremely talented players and us the experienced is also perfect.
“It’s just like at the 2012 Africa Cup and I feel we can go on and win this tournament,” Chansa said.
Chansa said that there was a rich interaction in camp which meant that everyone was speaking and sharing ideas on how to improve performance.
He said the move had worked well over the time the team had been together.
Zambia won the AFCON with Herve Renard as coach in a team that saw Chansa and Christopher Katongo play a major role with the latter voted BBC African Footballer-of-the-Year.
Chansa said in an interview here that it was good to hear praises of the experience he and Katongo have brought to the team especially that their inclusion ignited debate and split opinions.
“I would like to thank the coach for deciding to bring us into this team and its good people are saying good things about our contribution. All we want to do is work hard and help the team win games,” he said.
He described his goal just as a bonus and that what mattered most was the win and Zambia’s continued stay in Rwanda.
