POLICE have launched a hunt for a 35-year-old Mpika man, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Muchinga Province police chief Auxensio Daka said the suspect, Saulo Mwansa, escaped from police custody after being apprehended for defiling his sister-in-law.
Mr Daka said the incident occurred at the weekend when the wife of the suspect left the house for a few days leaving him with her younger sister.
He said after family members reported the alleged defilement, Mwansa was apprehended and was in police custody when he escaped from the holding cells.
“The wife of the suspect left her 12-year-old sister with her husband. It was at this point that the suspect took advantage of his wife’s absence and defiled the girl. After the man was apprehended, he escaped from the police holding cells. The police are on the ground and looking for this man,” he said.
Mr Daka said anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect should report the matter to the police.
In another development, a 17-year-old boy of Kafwimbi Village in Isoka, committed suicide after his parents found out about an alleged affair he had with his aunt.
Mr Daka who identified the deceased as Cassius Siame a Grade nine pupil at Muchinga Secondary School committed suicide in Longwe.
