SOME residents of Namatama Ward in Livingstone have bemoaned poor sanitation in the area as their houses get submerged due to punctured water pipes.
Mathilda Ngulube said her family house was completely submerged, and that the situation had driven fear in the residents as their houses could collapse any time.
She said in an interview that most houses foundations were severely damaged because the water had been running for years now.
“This is a very big problem. How can we live in houses surrounded by contaminated water? This is damaging our houses, we just need to leave our houses because the councillor is doing nothing to rectify the problem,” she said.
Area ward councillor Fenix Liyandisha said he was working with Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWASCO) to make sure that the leaking water pipes were worked on soon.
“I am appealing to SWASCO to come here and rectify this problem which is posing a danger to residents’ houses.
“It will be sad to see people spending nights in the cold if their houses collapse,” he said.
