PROMOTED Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) Division One side Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF) are itching to renew old rivalries with their foes ‘Men At Work’ Diggers in the Kitwe derby this season.
KPF treasurer, Jeremiah Manda said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the team was eagerly looking forward to savouring some top action for the first time since 2000.
“We promise to give the home fans a lot of wonderful games and we look forward to the local derby as it has been over 20 years since the two biggest and oldest clubs in rugby played each other in the local league,” Manda said.
KPF went into extinction in 2000 due to operational reasons that saw players move to arch-rivals Diggers and some trek to the midlands before the club was revived over two years ago as a Division Two team and later secured promotion at the end of the 2015 season.
Manda said that KPF will kick off their 2016 season pre-season training next week.
“We start training in the next one week as we are still waiting for the league fixture. The team is very ready to start the season and most talking will be done on the pitch,” Manda said.
