NATIONAL Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba has called for the immediate arrest of Vernon Mwaanga for issuing an alarming statement regarding the rigging of this year’s general elections.
Mr Mwaanga was quoted by the Post last week alleging that the Patriotic Front (PF) would rig the August elections.
Dr Mumba said this at Lusaka Central police Station after lodging a complaint against Mr Mwaanga’s advice to opposition political parties to “watch the tallying of votes because the process could be subjected to manipulation.”
Dr Mumba said Mr Mwaanga should be arrested for issuing the alarming statement.
“I have reported to the Zambia Police to start an investigation into the matter because if Mr Mwaanga is not caged then we will have serious problems as a nation,” he said.
Dr Mumba also linked Mr Mwaanga’s statement to that of Rainbow Party leader Wynter Kabimba, who said that the new Constitution was meant to create a one-party State.
He said the remarks were alarming to the nation and could trigger disunity among the people.
“Police must start investigating such people because they are bringing confusion among members of the public, which can lead to chaos,” he said.
He also announced his intention to contest the 2016 elections and has since adopted Kelly Walubita Jr as his running mate.
He appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia not to allow political parties to ferry supporters from one place to another to file in nominations.
