MWEETWA –
THE Chinese and German governments have commenced the sinking of 50 boreholes in Ngabwe and Mukubwe chiefdoms to help improve water supply in the areas, Kapiri Mposhi Member of Parliament (MP) Eddie Musonda has said
Mr Musonda said 35 boreholes would be sunk in Ngabwe Chiefdom while, 15 would be in Chief Mukubwe’s area.
The MP paid tribute to the two governments for partnering with the Zambian Government in improving water supply in the two chiefdoms.
Speaking in an interview yesterday Mr Musonda said supply of clean water in the two chiefdoms was critical as it was cardinal to the prevention of diseases.
He explained that the 40 boreholes would be sunk with assistance from the Chinese government which has also funded the other 10 boreholes.
He said he would continue lobbying the donor community in order to meet the people’s needs.
“I can confirm that 50 boreholes will be sunk in the two chiefdoms which will improve water supply among the local people who over the years have not had clean drinking water,” he said.
Contractors have already started drilling the boreholes and Mr Musonda was confident that the exercise would be completed soon.
He said the borehole drilling exercise fell under the Rural Sanitation Programme.
