COMMUNITY Development and Social Welfare Permanent Secretary, Davy Chikamata says his ministry has come up with a strategic plan to ensure aged people are taken care of.
Dr Chikamata said there was need to ensure that vulnerable people such as the aged also had access to facilities which other people accessed.
He said this when he visited senior citizens at Maramba Old People’s Home and Ngwenya Centre in Livingstone.
Dr Chikamata, who also visited Katombola Reformatory School in Kazungula District of Southern Province, said the Government was working to help the old people.
Speaking at Maramba Old People’s Home, Dr Chikamata said his ministry was making sure that challenges faced by the disabled and juveniles were alleviated.
“We will work hard to make sure that old people also enjoy life just like any other person,” he said.
Maramba Old People’s Home deputy officer in charge, Zyambo Kazembe said that the home needed more staff to adequately take care of the old people.
Mr Kazembe said there were few maids to take care of the disabled people at the Home.
