THE Livingstone Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 28-year-old man to two years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing household property and attempting to sell the same to the owner.
Appearing before Livingstone Magistrate Willie Sinyagwe was Justin Mulanda of house number B 314 Libuyu Township charged with house breaking and theft.
Particulars of the offence were that on December 30, 2015, Mulanda did enter into the house of Maxwell Banda of Samson village in Livingstone and stole one inventor, one bale of clothes, a home theatre, one DVD player and K 4,000 cash, all valued at K 7,000.
The accused was later caught after he attempted to sell the home theatre to the complainant at his working place the following day.
Mr Banda then reported to the police that Mulanda wanted to sell him his own missing home theatre.
The police later launched an investigation into the matter which led to the arrest of Mulanda who was formally charged with the said offence.
In mitigation, Mulanda appealed for leniency as he had two children and that his family would suffer if he was sent to jail.
In passing Judgement, Magistrate Sinyagwe expressed concern at people who were stealing from others who worked hard for their property.
He said the court would continue to punish people who resorted to stealing because of laziness.
