ANGOLAN club, Kabuscorp FC have expressed interest in signing Green Buffaloes captain, Christopher Katongo.
It is believed that that big spending Kabuscorp are willing to splash out US$30,000 as monthly salary for the Chipolopolo 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winning captain should he agree to join them.
Katongo returned to the MTN-FAZ Super league after his contract with South African PSL club Bidvest Wits ended and enjoyed good form that saw him guide Buffaloes to winning the 2015 Barclays Cup.
That impressive performance in the local league earned him a recall to the national team and was named Chipolopolo captain ahead of the Rwanda 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Angolan Football Association general secretary Delcio Ferreira Costa confirmed the development in an interview yesterday from Luanda.
Costa said Kabuscorp are keen on signing Katongo though they have not officially approached his current club.
He said Kabuscorp coach has been given a green light by the club to get in touch with the player and his club.
He said the matter was not yet official and that they will know where they stand  with the Chipolopolo local captain in two days.
“Yes I can confirm that Kabuscorp is interested in Katongo though the matter is not official yet. The coach of the club has been given green light to start negotiations. I am sure in two days they (Kabuscorp) will know the way forward,” Costa said.
Meanwhile, Katongo was yesterday busy with the Chipolopolo who played a preparatory match against a FAZ Division Two side Circuit City winning 1-0 in the two games that were played as coach George Lwandamina tried the two sets of teams.
The first team had Jacob Banda, Isaac Chansa, Buchizya Mfune, Katongo, Christopher Munthali, Benson Sakala, Stephen Kabamba, Adrian Chama, Dauti Musekwa, Spencer Sautu and Mwila Phiri who scored the goal.
Team B had Racha Kola, George Chilufya, Donashano Malama, Jack Chirwa, Patson Daka, Conlyde Luchanga (replaced by goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga), Salulani Phiri, Solomon Sakala, Anderson Mulawo, Mwape Mwelwa and Cletus Chama who scored.
And Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya has been appointed CAF head of venue for the CHAN and will lead the official delegation in Rubavu where the Chipolopolo will be based.
Sadly, no Zambian referee or assistant referee has been picked to officiate at the CHAN finals.
Zambia’s top official Jan Sikazwe, who is one of the nominees at today’s 2015 Glo-CAF Awards Gala for the CAF 2015 Referee-of the-Year award, is surprisingly missing from the 16-member list that has 18 assistant referees.
