A LUANSHYA man has accidentally killed his wife when he run over her with his motor vehicle when he returned home on Sunday evening.
The man’s wife was sleeping on a reed mat in the yard when her husband who had not switched on his headlamps arrived home with the intention of parking his motor vehicle when unknowingly he run over her and she later died.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa said Morrison Kangwa, 62, killed his wife Annie Nalwimba, 52 in Roan Township.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Kangwa was driving a Toyota Corona registration number ABT 7615 when he run over his wife within the couple’s yard.
Ms Kasosa said Ms Nalwimba who sustained a broken leg and deep cuts on her body died on arrival at Roan General Hospital.
“We have received a fatal accident that happened in Luanshya, involving a wife who was hit by her husband as he tried to drive around their yard,” she said.
She said Mr Kangwa has since been arrested and is in police custody waiting for a charge.
In another development, a 29-year-old farmer of Lwimba village in Mpongwe has died after being run over by a vehicle.
Ms Kasosa said an unknown person hit Paul Banda who sustained a broken spine, arms, ripped stomach and died on the spot.
She said the suspect was not arrested as the motor vehicle did not stop after the incident.
