By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA –
ZAMBIA Boxing Federation (ZBF) vice-president Kennedy Mubita has differed with his secretary general Caesar Musuku on the need to appear before the Sports Council (SCZ) this Thursday.
Mubita insisted that he will appear before the SCZ that has summoned the ZBF executive committee to appear before the disciplinary committee following two petitions from its provincial affiliates.
But Musuku argued that the petitions were not duly signed and thus the SCZ summon could not stand.
However, Mubita said in an interview yesterday that it was not right to defy the SCZ’s order as taking such a stance would be seen as a sign of indiscipline.
Mubita insisted that ZBF should appear before the SCZ and hear what they were being called for.
“There is no way you can just decide not to appear before the SCZ, which is the supreme sports body in the country.
“If we have been summoned, we’ll have to appear. If the GS won’t go there, I’ll go as vice-president,” he said.
Mubita said he had had problems with Chileshe’s leadership style and had written a letter to SCZ to complain.
He said he was happy that his complaints were now coming out in the open.
He explained that as disciplinary committee chairperson, he handled a lot of cases but that it was the impunity with which Chileshe wanted to force his ways that brought differences in the administration of the sport.
Mubita said when the disciplinary committee suspended Midlands Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) vice-chairperson Raphael Chalwe, the banned official bounced back after following procedure by appealing to the SCZ.
“There was another case where the disciplinary committee sat and suspended Kennedy Mvula, an official with Central Province Boxing Association.
“But to everyone’s surprise, Chileshe has reinstated Mvula without talking to me or anyone in the disciplinary committee. That is not right, he cannot be overruling our decisions just like that. Mvula now says he is chairman for Central Province,” Mubita said.
