PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu will win the 2016 presidential elections because of the various development projects that the Patriotic Front (PF) Government has embarked on, the PF media and publicity committee has said.
A member of the committee, Davidson Mung’andu said Mr Lungu meant well for Zambia, and that his good intentions had reflected through the various development programmes being rolled out across the country.
Mr Mung’andu was speaking on Radio Phoenix’s ‘Let the People Talk’ programme on which he featured together with United Party for National Development (UPND)’s Cholwe Beyani, who is in charge of policy and research.
“Definitely, President Lungu is winning next year’s elections. No doubt! I urge all our brothers and sisters in the UPND to join PF because we are winning,” Mr Mung’andu said.
He said the Government had embarked on an unprecedented road rehabilitation exercise that would see the opening up of many rural areas with huge economic benefits.
Mr Mung’andu said the roads were linking various parts of the country to enable agricultural products to move faster to markets and subsequently speed up the drive to diversify the economy.
President Lungu has re-introduced the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) which will renew parastatals and make them viable enough to earn Government revenue.
Mr Mung’andu said the Head of State was the best presidential candidate for next year because, unlike some opposition leaders, he did not go out of the country to discredit Zambia but to find investment opportunities.
He said even in the face of mine job losses, the President ensured that the miners were given land, a precious resource that would enable them earn an income.
Meanwhile, Dr Beyani said the best candidate for the presidency in 2016 was UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema because he was a good manager of the economy.
“President Lungu is humble, yes, but humility is not enough. We need a good manager of the economy and that is Hakainde Hichilema,” he said.
Dr Beyani said the PF had failed to successfully overcome the economic challenges like the energy crisis Zambia was facing, something that other administrations like UNIP had managed to do.
He said it was unfortunate that the PF had intensified road rehabilitation projects sponsored by loans.
Dr Beyani said the IDC was a parastatal that would merely consume Government funds and people, therefore, should realise that Mr Hichilema would be the best president.
