A SENIOR local court magistrate of Lusaka has been sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour for soliciting a bribe of K5,000 from a defendant in a divorce case.
Kaputo Modest Ng’andwe, 43, of house number 14700/M Libala South, Lusaka, solicited for the money from Mwaba Munkondya whose case he was presiding over so as to pass judgment in his favour.
Ng’andwe received K1,500 as gratification from Munkondya, but was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in October 2013.
He was charged with corrupt practices by public officer.
According to a statement released by ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono yesterday, Ng’andwe was sentenced to three years imprisonment by acting Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate, Aridah Chulu.
“The sentence was effective beginning December 29, 2015,” Mr Moono said.
