THE Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) has appointed Chainama Golf Club’s Chongo Kasongole as the new Zambia Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) director taking over from Aloysius Phiri, who has risen to serve on the African body.
ZGU honorary secretary Kelly Munsaka, who announced the changes yesterday, said while the union was losing a hard working person in Phiri, it had also appointed one dedicated official who will take the sport to a new level.
Munsaka said Phiri had selflessly served the sport and that Zambian junior golfers were even winning medals at international competitions because of his dedication to the sport.
“We want to thank Aloysius Phiri a lot for the hard work he put up into the game during his tenure as Director of ZJGA. He brought junior golf to where it is. We are happy he is now Junior golf Director Southern Region of Africa,” he said.
He said the ZGU wishes Phiri well and that looking back at his track record in Zambia, the ZGU was sure Phiri would work wonders at the regional office.
On the appointment of Kasongole, the ZGU secretary said that the new director was a goal-oriented person who would bring results and that the union was proud of the appointment.
“We believe in Kasongole a lot because he has good golf credential. He has passion and dedication, he has been a relevant affiliate member of union and we are confident he is going to deliver,” Munsaka said.
Munsaka also announced the setting up of a junior golf committee which would see Kasongole have two assistant directors in Philemon Mwale, the Club captain at Nkana for North, and Kabwe’s Cosmas Mufaya for the South.
Further, the union would have coordinators and placed Yenso Sekelo of Luanshya in Charge of North, while Axensio Daka of Mpika will be in charge of far north.
Lusaka’s Richard Phiri will head the South while Hebert Shalubobya has been put in charge of far south.
