THE Lions’ Club International (LCI) has handed over a mourners’ shelter to Chelstone Clinic.
LCI president Joseph Kanyanga said the mourners’ shelter would benefit members of the public who lost their beloved ones.
Dr Kanyanga was speaking during the hand-over ceremony.
He said the project should have been handed over some time back, but due to some setbacks the construction had been moving at a slow pace.
“Chelstone clinic lacked infrastructure such as the mourners’ shelter. It is because of this that the Lion’s Club International decided to put up a shelter and they have officially handed it over to Chelstone clinic through the Ministry of Health,” Dr Kanyanga said.
Dr Kanyanga hailed individuals, institutions and companies that had rendered support to the club in ensuring that the infrastructure was completed and handed over to the clinic.
He commended the Lions Club of Chelstone for the noble gesture of donating the shelter.
Dr Kanyanga said a mourners’ shelter was cardinal to the local community as it was a holistic Zambian heath delivery system that placed emphasis on taking services closer to them.
He said accepting to officiate at the function was a clear testimony of Government’s relentless effort to ensure that the role of service organisations such as Lion’s Club International in the health sector was enhanced.
Dr Kanyanga called on the local people to join the Lions Club and help in the 2015/16 lionistic year signature project, which was the ‘Keep Chelstone Clean Campaign’ to avoid outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, dysentery and typhoid.
