THE Ministry of Agriculture has raised about K101, 987 in revenue through import certificates, fish levy, phytosanitary certification and movement of livestock at Nakonde border.
District Agricultural coordinator Kasase Mwale said from January to September 2015, the Government through the Ministry of Agriculture was able to generate revenue of K101,987 from the various fees at the border.
“We are able to generate resources from the import and export permits for related agricultural products, phytosanitary certificates that is we clear agricultural produce, materials and plants that are coming in from disease and paste and also there is fish movement permit for fishery department.
And also as livestock department we give permits for animals that comes in and out of the country,” Mr Mwale said.
In an interview in Nakonde, Mr Mwale said the Ministry was able to generate resources from the various permits in Nakonde saying that the porous of the border was making it difficult for them to raise enough revenue.
He has urged the farmers moving livestock to acquire permits for them instead of dodging the fees because they might bring in livestock diseases that are expensive to deal with or control.
