State declares national mourning for Banda

ACTING President Alexander Chikwanda has declared tomorrow a day of national mourning in honour of the late Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Miles Banda.

Mr Banda died in Malaysia last Monday after an illness and his body arrived yesterday at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport aboard Emirates Airlines.

Funeral gathering is being held in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill behind Dream Valley.

According to a statement released by Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska yesterday, Mr Banda would be buried tomorrow at Leopard Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dr Msiska said the burial would be preceded by the requiem mass at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross at 09:15hours where mourners were expected to be seated in church by 09:00 hours.
