THE Ministry of Education has said the recent teacher recruitment exercise was conducted in a transparent manner as the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) thoroughly scrutinised the names and qualifications of all the applicants.
Education Permanent Secretary Chishimba Nkosha said in an interview yesterday that the successful applicants were properly scrutinised by the ECZ and ACC before the short-listing was done.
He was reacting to assertions that the process was not transparent.
“ECZ and ACC checked the qualifications of those who applied in the teaching service, so it is sad that some people are alleging that the selection of the newly-recruited teachers was not done in a transparent manner,” Mr Nkosha said.
He said some of the newly-recruited teachers were those who graduated in June and held qualifications in science and mathematics subjects.
Mr Nkosha, however, challenged those who still doubted the recruitment process to show proof of those who were not qualified by forwarding the names instead of speculating.
